Our results at 50 KB

50 KB is two and a half times the room of a 20 KB box, and the difference shows most on photos taken with a phone.

Screenshot of a form88.5 KB48.9 KB884 × 553, 73%

At 569 pixels wide, the 12 MP photo kept the lettering on a shop sign in the background readable, which it lost at 20 KB. The portrait barely changed: 89% quality is close to what a camera saves anyway. Our signature scan was already 31.7 KB, so it came back exactly as it was.

The screenshot is worth a note. Text in a screenshot has sharp edges, which JPG handles less well than photos. At 884 × 553 every line was still readable, just a little softer.

PNG files and transparency

The result is always a JPG, because that's what most forms accept. A transparent PNG logo in our tests came out with a white background, and the result card said so. It also grew from 10.0 KB to 27.8 KB: a simple PNG can be smaller than any JPG. If your form accepts PNG and your file is already small, you may not need this tool at all.

How to compress an image to 50 KB

  1. Add your JPG, PNG or WebP. 50 KB is preselected.
  2. Optionally set a maximum width and height, if the form asks for one.
  3. Press Compress Image, check the preview, and download.

Uploading a document rather than a photo? Compress PDF has a target size option too.

How it works

Step 1

Drop in the image

JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB. The 50 KB target is set for you.

Step 2

We find the best fit

At 50 KB a passport-style photo kept 89% quality, and a 12 MP phone photo became 569 × 427 px at 79%.

Step 3

Download a JPG

Location and camera data are removed when the image is re-saved, and transparent areas become white.
