SSC CGL and CHSL signature size (2026), and why there's no photo upload

By ZestyPDF Editorial TeamLast checked against the official notices

SSC CGL 2026 and CHSL 2026 have no photo upload: the application captures your photo live. The signature is uploaded as a JPEG/JPG of 10 to 20 KB. The notices describe the signature only in centimetres, and in two ways: “about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)” in section 9.6 and “about 4.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)” in the application annexure. Neither gives a pixel size.

Make yours now

Each button opens our free Photo & Signature Resizer with that size already picked. It makes a file that matches the published size and file-size limits, and tells you if your image can't. Your image stays in your browser.

How to make yours

  1. Sign on plain light paper and photograph or scan it in good light.
  2. Crop the photo close around your signature first, for example in your phone's photo editor. SSC sets no pixel size, so the crop box here keeps your image's shape.
  3. Press Signature under Make yours now. The resizer opens with SSC's 10–20 KB range picked.
  4. Add your image, press Auto-trim white margins if there's paper around the ink, then press Photo & Signature Resizer and Download.
  5. Check that the result card shows a size between 10 and 20 KB before you upload.

What the notice also says

The live photo

  • From the CGL 2026 notice, section 9.4:
“For applying, the candidate is not required to have a pre-existing photograph of himself/ herself. The application module has been designed to capture a photograph of the candidate filling up the application form.”
  • Its tips for the live photo: good light, a plain background, the camera at eye level, no cap, mask or spectacles, and don't take a photo of an existing photo.

Signature

  • Section 9.6 of both notices:
“Candidates are required to upload the scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB). Image dimension of the signature should be about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).”
  • The application annexure:
“Scanned signature in JPEG format (10 to 20 KB). Image dimension of the signature should be about 4.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).”
  • The notice says blurred or miniature signatures are rejected.

Aadhaar

  • Section 9.3 of the CGL notice: candidates who use Aadhaar authentication are not rejected for photo or signature non-conformity.

Questions

Why doesn't SSC ask for a photo?

The CGL 2026 notice says you don't need an existing photo: the application captures your photograph while you fill in the form (section 9.4).

What pixel size should my SSC signature be?

SSC doesn't give one. Section 9.6 says about 6.0 × 2.0 cm and the annexure about 4.0 × 2.0 cm. What both agree on is the file: a JPEG of 10 to 20 KB. Our ready-made size checks only that.

6 × 2 cm or 4 × 2 cm: which is right?

The same notice says both, and calls both “about”. Both are wide, short shapes, so crop close around your signature.

Does this apply to SSC MTS or GD?

We haven't checked: we couldn't find their 2026 notices on ssc.gov.in. Use your own notice.
